Audrey Hepburn photographed by Bob Willoughby, 1953.
"When I arrived at the Paramount Still Department, I started talking with the head portrait photographer, Bud Fraker. Bud was a terrfic man and always nice to young photographers when they entered his realm. So I was talking to Bud, waiting for the arrival of the subject, when out of the dressing room floated this vision swathed in voile. Bud caught my look of admiration and helped me to close my open mouth. ‘She is something, isn’t she?’ he said, looking first toward this beauty and then back at me. He took his position behind the huge 8 x 10 studio portrait camera. As he began to work, I, having regained a modicum of composure, began to sort out my own equipment. I always watched how other photogrphers lit their subjects, for I had originally apprenticed in a portrait studio. But in this instance, my eyes kept drifting back to that face. It was a different face, for sure, but… I couldn’t quite put my finger on what i t was. It was definitely something special.”
